Pete was the last born of ten children in the family. He learned as he entered middle school, that some labels are assigned according to the choices people continuously make. He realized, labels can be changed with just as much effort.
The labels of SLD (Specific Learning Disability) and mentally handicap that were assigned to Pete did not fit. He made a decision to do whatever was required to free himself. An encounter with a teacher that recognized his potential transformed his way of thinking, which in turn, changed the trajectory of Pete's life.
Deloris Purdie is an Adult Education Instructor. In her free time she enjoys crafting, painting, writing, and performing as historical women.
