When a woman tells police she witnessed a stranger walking through her backyard in the middle of the night and her beloved cat followed him away, young sketch artist Penny Perone is called in to assist in the identification of the Midnight Walker. Soon after, more cats disappear, including one belonging to Penny's longtime friend Bryan. When a strange woman moves into Penny's neighborhood, the investigation takes a turn for Penny in a direction not taken by the police. Then, as clues begin pointing to Penny's own parents and their reputation is on the line, Penny must confront witchcraft and superstition, Bryan's fear of the dark, and her own fears and insecurities in solving the mystery. As she unravels the threads of the mystery of the Midnight Walker, Penny discovers that people and circumstances are not always what they seem, and that by embracing our differences we can accomplish great things.
