Aprašymas
Gifu, Japan, 1949. The finest garrison in the Far East, and every man in it knows why it exists. A band at the gate, a boxing team, and nineteen sergeants in one rifle company built one at a time like a wall. The men call it our own little world, and the phrase carries both of its meanings.
The other meaning is in the files. Among the field grade officers, only the chaplains are Black. A Black battalion commander is quietly moved so he will not command white troops. And a private of eighteen asks the first sergeant why an outfit this old has nothing for the First World War, and gets Houston, 1917.
Then Sunday, the twenty-fifth of June, 1950. Within days the rumor is running through camp, among whites and Blacks alike, that the regiment will never be committed at all, on account of what Black units are said to have done in earlier wars.
It goes anyway: Moji, Pusan, Sangju. On the twenty-first of July the 3d Battalion takes Yech'on after the guns and the aircraft have burned it, and the country calls it the first significant American ground victory of the war.
The praise traveled at the speed of mail. By the time it landed, the regiment was fighting for its life in another valley.
THE DEUCE FOUR TRILOGY carries the 24th Infantry Regiment through its last two years. Documentary fiction, built on the Army's own history of the regiment.
