Avestan manuscripts show enormous orthographic variation, which has caused headaches for experts in Avestan philology and editors of Avestan texts. This book provides an in-depth structured analysis of it, with the aim of bringing order to the chaos present in the manuscripts. In addition, it seeks the origin of this variation, primarily in the recitation of the texts. Based on this analysis, it also provides a geographical and temporal classification of the manuscripts according to the main orthographic characteristics of each group or subgroup.
