On the Genealogy of Morals by Friedrich Nietzsche is a thought-provoking philosophical work that examines the origins and development of moral values and their implications for society. Written in response to a book on the origins of morality by his erstwhile friend Paul Rée, the three essays comprising The Genealogy of Morals-all three advancing the critique of Christian morality set forth in Beyond Good and Evil-are among Nietzsche's most sustained and cohesive work. Nietzsche questions moral certainties by showing that religion and science have no claim to absolute truth, before turning on his own arguments in order to call their very presuppositions into question.
