My altruistic daughter, Angela, had enlisted in the Peace Corps as a volunteer. Her assignment was in a remote village in western Uganda that was not directly accessible by public transportation. I thought it would be good for her to have family on hand to share her first Christmas halfway around the world, and I planned to be that family.

This is the story of my journey, the people met along the way, the challenges encountered, the life lessons learned about happiness and appearances, and the seeming contradictions stumbled upon the Pearl of Africa -- Uganda.
