Why is mathematics so hard?

This question has been pondered by many teachers, researchers and scientists throughout history- and yet it's still one of the most difficult subjects in schooling.

Why is it that only some seem to grasp this labyrinth of equations, numbers and calculations?

Is it natural talent?

Is it the quality of teachers and institutions?

Is it parenting or educational support?

This text presents an inquiry into the nature of mathematical learning wherein we will discover why mathematics is so difficult and how we, as practitioners, can navigate this ocean of difficulty to become captains of our own mathematical ability.
