Aprašymas
Nightsoil is an invitation to abandon shame and embarrassment and discover how the world's most reviled substance became one of civilisation's most fertile resources. While defecation rules our routines and keeps us alive, the taboos around excrement are as far-reaching as they are deeply-rooted in the psyche. Little wonder that shit's cultural impact has been obscured and ignored.
Yet throughout history, from Aztec cosmology to ancient medicine, in myth and magic, warfare and resistance, religion and art, shit has served as symbolic currency and as an antidote to established doctrine, an ancient and life-giving element whose power cannot be silenced.
What we once referred to euphemistically as nightsoil is responsible for some of our species' most sophisticated creative impulses and technical innovations. In an era of coercive technology and alienation from nature - and each other - shit may hold the key to healing ourselves and our planet. It reminds us of the place humans occupy within nature's cycle of renewal and how at the most honest, primeval level, we are all one.
