Aprašymas
What does it take to look and feel like a real princess?
Muna dreams of looking like a princess and begs her mother to let her do her hair in a different style. Instead, as she does every Saturday, her mom insists on isi owu. But then Muna is invited to be the flower girl in her aunty's wedding, and her dream comes true! A salon experience? Check! A puffy princess gown? Check! Sitting on a throne for the wedding ceremony? Check! But it turns out those things aren't as fun as she expected, and being a princess is not all it's chalked up to be.
When it's time for the traditional Nigerian wedding ceremony, Muna gets decked out in wrappers, coral beads, and uli drawings. Then her hair is wrapped into a gorgeous isi owu crown. She discovers that Igbo isi owu hair threading has been passed down from generation to generation among all the women in her family. Muna looks and feels amazing! Having hair like an Igbo princess makes her feel like true royalty!
This picture book by Ugo Anidi, illustrated by Moka Celess, is a true celebration of African immigrant culture and hair in African art and culture. And who doesn't love a story about being in a wedding? Muna gets to be in two on the same day!
