"Curiosity...Monstrosity.." Moko mumbled as she glared over the top of the dictionary at her webbed toes. "Freak."

Having been an orphan for longer than she can remember, Moko wonders if perhaps her parents abandoned her because of her finer qualities, including her amphibian feet, pale-green skin and uncanny ability to hold her breath for hours on end. When she is finally adopted by the Beaumont family she questions why, whit all the pretty little girls at the orphanage, the would have chosen her. Then she realizes the Beaumonts are far from perfect themselves. In fact, they all need serious help, as they've spent the last two years failing to recover from the disappearance of Johnny, the youngest of the Beaumont boys.

With determination, a dictionary, and an unexpected relationship with the creature living in the bottom of the old well behind the Beaumonts' home, Moko discovers her own unique qualities and, in doing so, realizes she might just be the key to the Beaumonts' happiness.
