Pastor Reno found the book of I John to be helpful for people sorting out where they really stand with the Lord. I John will encourage and assure those who are saved, and it will often alarm and awaken those who are lost. There are three purposes given in the book of I John for its having been written. The first purpose is: "And these things write we unto you that your joy might be full." The second purpose is: "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not." The third purpose is we can know we are saved: "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
