The rural electrification program needs to focus on sustainability and bringing about the economic development of rural communities as a part of the overall rural development agenda (Garud & Sharma, 2016). Out of the 1.3 billion people in the world who live without access to electricity, 400 million people live in India (Millinger, Marlind & Anlegreen, 2016).
