He fantasizes as much about his more confident avatar Harry the hedgehog's crush in the game, Mabel the purple axolotl, as he does his very real co-worker, Celeste, a trans girl, though both seem hopelessly out of reach.
At the same time, he navigates the difficult situation of his parents' divorce and his father's depression, which leaves him on his own much of the time. As Celeste and Mabel help Quentin come out of his shell, he develops the courage to take some risks in both his online life and in person, learning a lot about trust and self-acceptance along the way.
