Gambia is one of the most popular destinations to travel to in Africa. Its hot weather, beautiful beaches, rich culture, and friendly citizens make it the ideal holiday location for many people. There is also a growing influx of people of African heritage born in the diaspora, who have either relocated permanently to Gambia or they have plans to move there in the future.

Author Makonnen Sankofa has been to Gambia 3 times. In 2019, he spent 6 months living in Gambia. In this book, Makonnen gives insight into his experiences of Gambia. Makonnen's journey is from the perspective of a person who has African-Caribbean heritage that was born in the diaspora. During Makonnen's time in Gambia, he connected with his African roots and explored opportunities available in Gambia.

Highlights of Makonnen's experience included learning about Gambian culture, spending time with the locals, visiting the villages, going to a wedding, teaching in schools, filming and editing videos for Blaxit YouTube channel, and meeting the movers and shakers of Gambia!
