Late and Soon, by Mary Pneuman, is a reflection on the passage of many decades, and on the subject of time itself. Growing up on the Illinois prairie and adult life in the Pacific Northwest have provided fertile soil for contemplation of the nature of things and the sometimes tragic, sometimes comical relationship between human beings with each other and the natural world. Themes of loss and love, war and peace, inequity and justice parry with each other and invite the reader to ponder some of the contradictions, yet to trust that late and soon, the timeless moral curve of history bends toward justice and peace.
