Aprašymas
This book is intended as a teaching tool for beginning graduate students and new researchers interested in two seemingly divergent themes whereby one theme deals with synchrotron X-ray scattering and laser cross correlation function techniques, while the other theme is concerned mainly with the use of electrospun nanofibers for application to water purification. Together with recent reviews of several hundreds of references on the two themes, the monograph points out how we should adapt our education to new environments in the changing society.
A short discussion on the perception of these two themes, their brief historical background, and a reasonable justification on the future prospect of those two themes can be used to show that our perception on what we do requires us to have a better understanding on our changing society. Education remains a good pathway to broaden the perspective in a complex society. However, we need to recognize that institutions of higher learning are within our society. Thus, the student should be aware of the deficiencies in institutions of higher learning, including the selection of research advisors. Clearly, we do not want researchers to enter a field of study which will become obsolete in the foreseeable future. The topics in this monograph will have good utilities for many years to come.
