A valuable contribution to the sociolinguistics of inequality in a global Korean context

This edited volume examines how ethnic nationalism and dominant language ideologies shape policies, discourses and lived experiences in Korean society and diasporic settings. It brings together research on linguistically diverse speakers to engage critically with monolingual and monocultural ideologies of Koreanness, histories of migration, transnationalism and interethnic relations.

Organized into three sections, it explores linguistic discrimination within Korea, Korean language and identity abroad and barriers to Korean language learning and teaching, offering suggestions for improving access to linguistic resources and building more positive multicultural and multilingual identities.
