Land of Emptiness is a collection of 63 of Alfred Cahen's poems-spare, usually dark, often darkly humorous. His style and subject matter are distinctly confessional in the manner of Robert Lowell or Sylvia Plath. Sample Poem: Falling into Place For a poet it's never a question of the next word - it's a matter of the tongue-in-groove fit of one phrase into another. This work is a puzzle in the air: everywhere pieces coalescing, the windy breath of some god and the greed of gravity.
