A brief history of the Rustici, Brugaletta, and Arnone families who immigrated from southern Italy and Sicily to the Midwestern United States, particularly Kansas City, Missouri metro. They worked in everything from the railroad industry to groceries, and they spawned artists, musicians, and doctors. They survived civil wars within their own country, world wars, railroad accidents, and health issues. Some of them were among the first to see the newly erected Statue of Liberty. Others bumped elbows with the mafia without involving their loved ones. Their stories reflect the birth of a nation and the burgeoning growth of their own families.
