For over forty years, the Slovenian art and performance collective Laibach has both disturbed and fascinated the international cultural scene through its use of totalitarian symbolism and continual changes in musical style—ranging from martial industrial and bombastic rock to symphonic works. Laibach not only questions political modes of thought, but also critiques state and religious power structures as a whole, as well as the mechanisms of cultural industry marketing and the political manipulation strategies of popular culture. This volume, which includes contributions in both German and English, explores various approaches to the complete body of work by the Slovenian provocateurs, from their industrial beginnings to their current symphonic work Alamut.
