Aprašymas

Keeping the Big Guns Firing is a personal account of the service of SSgt Patrick Goodrow, a Non-Commissioned Offer in the USMC who served in the war as an artillery mechanic during the mid- and late- 1960s. The author takes the reader into thr operations of the Marines, on the front and behind the "war" scenes where reality is seen in the human relations factor. A fascinating book about men at war by a former Marine with literary skills. SSgt Goodrow writes about his experiences nearly 50 years after the war ended, bringing forth an account that is both interesting from a historic/military aspect but also from a humanitarian perspective. Goodrow recounts incidents of nearly-lethal racial tension, defying the orders of a commanding officer, almost earning a purple heart, deciding whether it would be necessary to kill, receiving a less-than-welcoming arrival back home... and much more. The stories of sacrifice and bravery, and the raw emotions and difficult choices brought about in times of war, are beautifully recounted in this book.
