As a pastor and a community activist for progressive causes, I find that it helps me to center my thoughts early each morning to help me in my writing, church and community work. So first thing every morning I spend time in God's Word and in prayer. The next thing I do every morning is read one of Stewart's poems. His poetic words dovetail with what I had just read in Scripture...Stewart mixes righteous anger with genuine caring and love for those whom society has marginalized.
