When I wrote the first of my joke books, I waited nervously indoors, with the curtains drawn, expecting a knock at the door in the middle of the night. When it didn't happen, I relaxed enough to write another one and here it is! My publisher said there must be some mistake. I said no, that was the doctors first reaction on seeing me being born, not the joke book, which was a deliberate act of insanity on my part (readers of a nervous disposition, look away now).
