This edited volume explores the life, works, and intellectual milieu of the eighteenth-century Ottoman polymath Ismāʿil Gelenbevī, situating him within the wider tradition of post-Avicennan philosophy. Bringing together studies across a broad range of subjects, the volume examines Gelenbevī's contributions to logic, natural philosophy, philosophical theology, astronomy, and mathematics. By combining intellectual history with close textual analysis, the studies in the volume offer fresh insights into the continued vibrancy of eighteenth-century Ottoman thought in particular, and the Islamic intellectual tradition more generally.
