Aprašymas

If the number of Academy activities devoted to international arbitration has increased significantly in recent decades, it is due to the growing importance that this mechanism has gained among peaceful means of resolving international disputes. In many fields, particularly in areas such as international business, investment and sports, arbitration has become the predominant mechanism, creating in some cases a sort of de facto quasi-exclusive jurisdiction.
Several of the Academy's recent programs have opened with inaugural lectures specifically addressing international arbitration. This book brings together four of these lectures, originally delivered and published in French and now available in English in a single volume. As with all those invited to open the Academy's programs, the level and prestige of the authors featured in this work are superlative.
The works offered by these distinguished lecturers reflect a diversity of perspectives, among the many that international arbitration allows today, and accurately summarize the Academy's permanent interest in the evolution of international arbitration and how it relates to international law.

Diego P. Fernández Arroyo, Foreword
Dominique Hascher, The Role of International Law in the Supervision of Arbitral Awards
Jean-Michel Jacquet, Private International Law and International Commercial Arbitration
Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler, Independence and Impartiality of Judges and Arbitrators in Investor-State Disputes
Alexis Mourre, The Legitimacy of Arbitration
