This is Lord Alfred Tennyson's 1849 poem, "In Memoriam A.H.H.. It is a requiem for Arthur Henry Hallam, Tennyson's close friend who died without warning in 1833. It contains some of Tennyson's most beautiful lyric work, and is generally credited with being among the greatest poems of the 19thc century.
