Anne Bradshaw copes with being a widow at age 38 by having daily "conversations" with her late husband, mostly about their children, 18-year old Bob, a rock musician, and 17-year old Amy, a college student, both of whom have left the "family nest." Anne enjoys her work as a freelance writer/photographer in the small agricultural community in which she lives. Close friends, Joanie and Chuck Clark, keep close tabs on her-especially Joanie, who is always trying to set her up with a new man. Anne feels "emotional stirrings" when she receives a condolence card from Loren Stoller. Loren and his ex-wife, Millie's children were friends with Anne and Mike's children and the families used to take outings together. Anne's "feelings" are rekindled when Loren comes to see her, but she is disappointed when he remains uncommitted and uncommunicative after a romantic encounter. After the tragic loss of her friend, Anne discovers the "right partner" for her life's journey.
