If the New Testament were completely clear, it would surely be less interesting! Every puzzle it offers the reader is a new challenge! One feature of New Testament teaching that most often stumps readers is the surprisingly frequent mention of the mysterious “Principalities and Powers.” Uh, . . . the what? Paul certainly considered them theologically important—whatever they are! But Paul is important to us, so whatever he meant by such terminology automatically matters to us, too. A bit of digging discloses connections to astrology, mythology, theology, political theory, sociology, psychology, postmodernism, gender, and more. Many scholars have clarified these matters, and more still have explained their unexpected importance to the modern world. Once we crack the code, we will find the Principalities and Powers to be the key to many of today’s problems. What better examples could one name than, say, the Military-Industrial Complex and the Deep State? The Archons are alive and well . . .
