Philo means study while Sophia means wisdom.This word (Sophia) originated from the Greek word or the school of thought known as Sophists (Greek sophistes," expert, master craftsman, man of wisdom), originally, name applied by the ancient Greeks to learned men, such as the Seven Wise Men of Greece; in the 5th century BC, a name applied to itinerant teachers who provided instruction in several higher branches of learning for a fee. The wise men from the east that came to worship Jesus at his birth may belong to this group of Greek philosophers. Note that Christ was born at the period of Roman government which was the peak of Greeks civilization.
