Each family history commences with the original 17th-century settler and is brought down, in most cases, to the early decades of the 19th century. Children are carried forward as heads of families in leap-frog fashion, and everyone mentioned whose name does not occur in normal sequence under the appropriate family history is identified in the index. Wherever possible, women are indexed under their maiden names.
