Henry Buist, a tenant farmer from Fife, typified the innovative spirit in Scottish farming in the late 18th century and early 19th century. A tenant of East Mill, Strathmiglo Parish, Fife and Pittuncarty, Abernethy Parish, Fife, Henry lived through the height of the Scottish Enlightenment when new science was being brought to bear on Scottish agriculture. His father, Andrew Buist (1727-1815) and grandfather, William Buist (b. 1691- ) were also tenant farmers in Abdie Parish, Fife.
