This two-volumes Handbook charts the field of Buddhism in Europe in systematic perspective and geographic spread and for the first time brings together studies on the presence of Buddhism in every country in Europe. The Handbook furthermore deals with significant pan-European developments such as early encounters and studies of Buddhism in Europe, Buddhism and European philosophy, temples and monasteries, performing arts, teachers and umbrella organisations, Buddhist and fascism and under communist rule, Theravāda traditions in Europe, Mahāyāna, Japanese, Vietnamese, Tibetan, Ambedkarite Buddhism, secular Buddhism and so on, and a number of topics and issues such as politics, engaged Buddhism, consumerism, women and gender issues, queer studies, controversies and scandals, education and Buddhist youth.
