Written by the historian George Lester in 1890 the book provides an insight into events in and around the town in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The second half of the book describes the activities of a number of Lincolnshire country Societies as well as a detailed account of Samuel Wesley's livings at South Ormsby and Epworth and that of John Wesley's curacy in the Isle of Axholme.
