As 2014 began, Lauren was enjoying life. By January 14th, she was fighting for her life. In the blink of an eye, H1N1 flu triggered a series of medical complications which led to a coma, a stroke and months of hospitalization. While medical staff prepared for the possibility of death, her family, friends and a special doctor chose the path of faith. That is when miracles began to eclipse the darkness. An actual underground tunnel connecting one hospital to the rehabilitation center came to symbolize the entire journey which Lauren now refers to as her Tunnel of Change.
