This second volume of Generals in White, Austrian Generals of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, 1792-1815 is part of a three-volume series that delves into the lives and careers of the hundreds of Austrian officers who served as Generals during one of the most tumultuous periods in European history. Each biography is meticulously compiled from a diverse range of sources, aiming to bring these individuals to life, meaning they are no longer simply names on pages.

Volume 2 provides a detailed overview of how officers embarked on their military careers, from becoming a humble fähnrich (ensign) and progressing up the regimental ladder to become generals. The volume explores the careers of generals Henneberg through to Quosdanovich. This includes generals Melas and 'the unfortunate' Mack who were defeated by Napoleon in 1800 at Marengo and 1805 in the Ulm Campaign. We also continue to see the diversity of these men, coming from Austria, Hungary and wider Eastern Europe, Italy, Belgium, and even several Émigrés fleeing the upheaval in France.

Each biography includes comprehensive genealogical information (where available) tracing their parents, siblings and spouses, and a detailed description of their career path, from their initially joining a regiment until their retirement. The biographies are crafted using a wide variety of sources, including regimental and campaign histories, as well as journal articles, providing a rich portrayal of these figures from history.
