Owing to the total destruction of the county courthouse in 1869, few records of Buckingham County, Virginia survive. Nevertheless, with an eye out for her own Buckingham County ancestors, Mrs. Edythe R. Whitley collected every scrap of information on the county that could be unearthed. The results of her lifelong interest can be found in this work, the only collection of genealogical source records on Buckingham County ever published.Records abstracted include the tax lists of 1764, 1773, 1774, and 1800; military records of the Revolution and the War of 1812; land grants; a few scattered marriage records; and records of the settlement known as Planterstown.
