She realizes the foundation of her existence is based upon the ability of her people to survive beyond the hardships of slavery in a strange land. She stands on the shoulders of a great people. In creating her poetic expression, she releases her hate, injustice, and racial imbalance of discrimination she has experienced all her life, despite the many contributions to the betterment of our society. Fire in My Bones is a cry to be heard, a cry to be appreciated, a cry for release of the pain of the unfairness inflicted upon Ollie Marshall-Rico's very soul.
