Familiar Gestures offers a rare insight into the remarkable private collection of Dr. Gunther Jaegers, developed over decades through an intensive engagement with contemporary art. The publication brings together works by both established and younger artistic positions and presents a collection shaped less by stylistic or chronological order than by personal conviction, curiosity, and long-standing relationships with artists. Painting, sculpture, and other media open diverse perspectives on themes such as identity, memory, politics, intimacy, and everyday life. Featured artists include, among others, Alex Katz, Xenia Hausner, Martha Jungwirth, Hermann Nitsch, and Christian Schad, along with younger artists such as Stylianos Schicho, Monika Kus-Picco, Silke Mathé and Petar Mirkovic.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition at the Kunsthalle Jesuitenkirche Aschaffenburg, Familiar Gestures explores collecting as a form of dialogue — between artworks, generations, and ways of seeing. Richly illustrated and complemented by essays, the volume conveys the diversity of contemporary artistic practice while understanding collecting as both a personal and cultural act.
