This textbook, for journalism students in the Japanese EFL context, confronts globalization as a dominant and homogenizing force assailing the social and political worlds. It encourages young people to address inequities, to inquire and write, to understand the history of dominance, and to value local culture and traditions as signs of resurgence.Students are supported and guided on the path of carrying out investigations, citing sources, and using conventional rhetorical techniques in reporting that express local values and concerns.
