The Charlie-130 Hercules transport aircraft is the workhorse of the Royal Air Force. The fleet totals 50 aircraft and it is used primarily to carry troops, passengers or freight. Each aircraft can carry up to 128 passengers, or 20 tonnes of palletised freight, or vehicles, for up to 2000 miles. It requires an enormous amount of effort, in the form of servicing, to perform its Herculean tasks. This work is about the life, loves and escapades of those young men who perform the servicings, whether they be simply topping up the fuel or deep stripping the powerplants.
