Bhagwan Singh Tagar gives readers a beautifully crafted police drama in his novel Eradication of Evil, a rich crime mystery as much about the officers and the people they investigate as about the search for clues.

The investigation into John Wilford's death seems routine when Detective Inspector Peter Grant and other officers arrive on the scene. They question David Walker, a member of a local gang, when he's caught in possession of Wilford's wallet while running from police. The arrest of Paul Hill follows after Walker confesses not to the murder but to burglarizing Wilford's flat.

Secrets about Wilford soon emerge after the mother of a boy allegedly molested by Wilford publishes a story about him and other pedophiles in the newspaper she edits. The article also features the photo of Patrick Bell, who had changed his name after serving time for the crime but now risks being uncovered thanks to the photo. He doesn't have much of a chance to worry-he and others die in a multicar pileup that police suspect was caused by sabotage.
