The basic characteristic of surface exploitation is the use of high productivity machines for digging, loading and transporting both tailings and useful mineral raw materials. Machines used for transportation can be used to transport tailings to a landfill or to transport useful mineral raw materials to a processing plant. In addition, this paper also contains a section on the chimney transport of tailings and mineral raw materials in surface mines. In this paper, only discontinuous equipment is described, which is used for digging, loading and transport in surface mines. In addition, this paper describes the use of GPS on the discontinuous equipment of the Banovici Brown Coal Mine and the use of GPS on the continuous equipment of the Dubrave Lignite Mine.
