Aprašymas

The oeuvre of the artists of the Wiener Werksttte is known worldwide; however, to date, only scant interest has been afforded the women artists. The ceramicists G. Baudisch, S.Singer, and V. Wieselthier are well known; Mathilde Flgl, Hilda Jesser, Maria Likarz, and Felice Rix at least evoke some association, but only experts are familiar with Martha Alber, Rose Krenn, and Margarete Reingold.

As part of research carried out at the MAK, approx. 180 women artists have been identified whose participation in the development of Viennese arts and crafts is presented in this exhibition for the first time. The professional image of women artisans is analyzed, including its emancipatory potential; the catalog illustrates these women's enormous wealth of ideas that has contributed to the unique status of the Wiener Werksttte.
