1939, an Englishwoman was evacuated to rural Wales, settling with her husband in a village without running water or electricity, seven miles from her in-laws. In 1942, she began this diary. It chronicles the daily grind of life, filled with anecdotes of her children and rapport with her neighbours. Whether gardening for hours or sharing her love for poetry and flowers, she captures the spirit of the local landscape -- even as her entries are punctuated by dire reflections on the progress of the war. These rural memories were later recaptured in the "Patchwork Pictures" which she continued to produce until the end of her long life.
