1) It will be only the third English-language book on Chinese microcredit, and the first to critically examine government-run microcredit programmes. 2) It will apply a novel relational approach to understanding the formulation, implementation, and outcomes of microcredit programmes, shining new light on how microcredit 'slots into' development landscapes. 3) It will use the Chinese experience with microcredit as a lens through which to examine the developmental assumptions and ideologies underpinning the global microcredit and financial inclusion movement, thus providing the means to critique both the Chinese and global development projects.
