But the peaceful facade of the village is shattered when Louise receives a strange condolence card in her mailbox. Things only get stranger when a mysterious midnight visitor refuses to leave and her shear brandishing neighbor utters wild accusations against Carol Benson, the previous owner of Louise's house.

Adding to the mystery are the financially troubled young couple living next door, who were the late Carol's niece and nephew.

When the police show up at the nursing home where Louise volunteers, it's clear, foul play was afoot in Carol's demise.
