For more than a dozen seasons, author Steve Tyler toiled as a land surveyor in the Alaskan wilderness, from rain-drenched Ketchikan to Kodiak Island, from the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea to Anaktuvuk Pass, gateway to the Arctic.
