Aprašymas
Author Chris Booth was based at Worksop Depot in Nottinghamshire for a railway career lasting 43 years. This book presents his personal recollections of the pits and the coal trains that fed the power stations, and the decline of the industry, and with it, the Worksop Depot. Brief descriptions of each colliery and power station are given alongside previously unpublished photographs, anecdotes about coal train rides and visits to the pits, and extra information on opencast and imported coal and the ways in which emissions were controlled.
Since the early years of the new millennium, the last deep coal mine has loaded its final train, and the last train of imported coal has fed the fires of the last of the UK's coal-fired power station. As the world shifts toward sustainable energy, coal mines and coal-fired power stations have become relics of the past.Coal Trains from Pit to Power Station is an eyewitness account of the years leading up to that change.
