Aprašymas

"I struggled to restrain myself from doing anything that might send me to a psychosis
and even though I was wide awake, my body was exhausted, and I could not reconcile reality and illusion."

Crazy. Unhinged. Psychotic...-Unkind words used to describe a person living with
mental illness and with shame, ridicule, and mockery, is how they are treated.

After witnessing her aunt being tied up by the legs while going through a manic
episode, young Pinky just could not shake the feeling that something better could
have been done to help her.
Little did she know that her own life would be punctuated with exhilarating highs and
devastating lows, all in pursuit of sanity.

Triggers that included sexual abuse at the hands of those close to her, excessive
use of substances and strained relationships, all culminated in a diagnosis that she
would have to live with, her whole life.

With a lifetime of experience, this memoir is a vulnerable account of Pinky's journey
with bipolar disorder.
  • Delve in and gain a better understanding of those living with mental illness.
  • Discover the life changing reprieve made possible by medication and therapy.
  • Redefine what you know about the mind and its health.

About the Author
Pinky Babalwa Hartnett was born and raised in East London, South Africa.

Her medical diagnosis of bipolar disorder has informed her life's work in creating a
safe space for those who have received the same and shining a light on mental
health; a subject that has long been in the shadows. This she does, through her
writing, which she has found, has been a cathartic outlet of expression.

Alongside surviving bipolar disorder and taking medication daily, she is most proud
of the strides her family has made in living life, mentally healthy.

Together with her husband Fin, they are raising three lively boys in Kingston,
Canada.
