The author (Richard Showstack) started to teach English to Japanese students more than forty years ago, and at that time he noticed a lot of common mistakes they made, but he also realized the limits of the Japanese English education system at the time. Then, he got a job correcting the English essays of Japanese students over the Internet, and he has now checked more than 25,000 of their papers! When he started to correct the essays, he was dismayed to discover that Japanese students are still making many of the same mistakes that they were making forty-plus years ago! He decided to start keeping a record of those mistakes, and he has compiled a list of 100 mistakes still commonly made by Japanese people when they try to communicate in English.
